on freedom

On Freedom

A cry for Freedom,
Reflected, refracted, upon broken, battered bodies,

Bearing witness to the struggle,
“Because of my sister, your sister, our sisters…”

Womanhood aspiring to its rightful place,
Fighting for its roots from an ancient space,
For release, for relief, from social bondage.

“Because of yearning for an ordinary life…”

Rooting for change, but not in exchange.

“Because of a feeling of peace after this long night of disease …’

Our ‘Cry for Freedom’
For Motherland, BARAYE IRAN!

Maryam Eisler , JUNE 2023

A new and different perspective  on my forever photographic exploration of the ‘Sublime Feminine’, only this time,  inspired by the music and lyrics of Shervin Hajipour’s  iconic song ‘ Baraye’, which has now become the powerful anthem of the Revolution in Iran, and the fight for ‘ Woman Life Freedom’ .

It is these very notes which I have projected onto the body of my sitter, her hair symbolically flowing, her fist clenching, her body free of impositions, an Iranian woman crying for Freedom.
